It is the last day of the month, and next month, we are celebrating 23 years of Powerpets!

Over the past 23 years, we have had some great times and some challenging times. As some of you know, we started Powerpets as a small hobby project and it quickly ballooned into quite the site. At the start, we struggled mostly with some technical issues trying to keep up with the amount of new visitors joining in on the fun. We were also challenged with swaths of people trying to cheat for whatever reason and having to deal with arguments and fighting. Something that we still don't quite get to this day. We expected people to come here just to relax and have fun, not cause more stress in an already challenging world.


On the technical side we dealt with countless hacking attempts and abuse of the servers. Even to this day we frequently receive notifications that our site is under attack more than other sites, sometimes up to 30 attempts per day.
We got through those times, many times by investing money into more security, and all the time thanks to our dedicated volunteer staff.


In the late 2010's we struggled with Adobe discontinuing Flash, as the many aspects of the site relied on this technology, causing a huge setback in development that we are still working to resolve to this day.

Barely two years ago, despite all our security measures in place, we were faced with a hijacking and extortion attempt that nearly wiped out Powerpets forever. Fortunately through a bit of luck and a lot of work, we were able to recover the majority of the site. Another challenge we are working to resolve to this day.


All in all, after those obstacles were, and are being, overcome, Powerpets is still standing. Even though we had to invest over $4,000 of our personal funds from our day jobs to keep Powerpets up and running last year due to the lengthy recoveries. Now that things are picking up again, we are confident that this year our server and other related costs will be covered thanks to everyone who makes purchases in the Upgrade Center and other areas that keep Powerpets up and running and ad-free!


Another major challenge we have faced throughout the existence of Powerpets is finding reliable artists. Though the past years we have lost most of our main artists due to life interfering. We have also attempted to find new artists who play on Powerpets through art contests the past couple of years, which were not fruitful.
Due to this, and because we don't want to burn out the remaining artist, we decided to get some help from AI to pick up the slack and create place-holder images in areas that have been bare for years. We are still working on teaching the AI to keep things more consistent, which is turning out not to be so easy because there are many different art styles on Powerpets. We are still hopeful to find some human artists who will be easier to communicate with than a computer who can't grasp what Gekkie is supposed to look like.


On the development side, we are still working on rebuilding the Battle Stages. There is a lot of data to be reconstructed as each weapon needs its stats back, as well as all the opponents. Unfortunately this is the super busy time for our day jobs so it is taking a bit longer than anticipated, but we'll get there. Thanks to all staff who have helped out with this project so far.

On June 9th, we will hold our regular Staff Dicey Challenge.
On June 20th, you can win a Mini Bubble if you manage to defeat a staff in our Mini Bubbles Challenge.

On June 17th, BINGO will be free to play for all!

We will also be continuing our First Responder collection this month with the Powerpets Police Department set, which will be released soon.

Our friend will be requesting your swift assistance for bonus quests, but don't worry, because he's also giving out twice the reward!
